“You don't have to run, B, it’s okay to walk.” I said this to my one year old nephew as he ran down our driveway as fast as his little legs would take him. Lately, as soon as his feet hit the ground outside, he just takes off. He is curious about everything and learning to master his gross motor skills, but really hard to keep up with when he runs! Yet, as soon as I said these words to him, I felt them in my soul. “It’s okay to slow down too, Alysa.”
Reminds me of the story of Mary and Martha in Luke chapter 10. Martha opened her home to Jesus and his disciples. While Martha was busying herself with all the preparations, Mary sat intently at Jesus’ feet (v. 39-40). Martha was upset because Mary wasn’t helping, however, Jesus responded “Martha, Martha…you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her” (v. 41-42).
So, today.. Yes, we have housework to do, jobs to fulfill and people to care for; however, instead of running after those to-do's, we can choose to walk with Him first. Instead of chasing after the world, we can rest at His feet, listen to His word, talk to Him and align our hearts with His desires. It’s not always easy to slow down, I’m so thankful for this beautiful reminder from my nephew- may his feet and yours always walk with Jesus.
I read a great book a few years ago by Jennifer Dukes Lee called "Growing Slow," and I HIGHLY recommend! I've bought several copies to pass to friends and family! Here's a link to the book to get your copy too: https://amzn.to/4wFvzmj
